Packing starting point

Pack the essentials

Pack together so the youth knows where everything is. The event-specific list always takes priority.

Personal essentials

  • A labelled water bottle
  • A small day pack
  • Toiletries and a small towel for overnight camps
  • Any medication and instructions requested by the Scouters

Weather-ready clothing

  • Weather-appropriate layers and extra socks
  • Rain jacket and rain pants when rain is possible
  • Closed-toe footwear suitable for the activity
  • Indoor footwear when the event location requires it
  • Toque, gloves, sun protection or insect repellent as conditions require

Overnight gear

  • Sleeping bag appropriate for the forecast
  • Insulated sleeping pad
  • Sleepwear and a change of dry clothing
  • A plastic bag for wet or dirty clothing
  • Pillow only if space and the event packing list allow it

Useful camp gear

  • Headlamp or flashlight with spare batteries
  • Mess kit and cleanup items when requested
  • A durable bag the youth can carry and identify
  • Everything labelled with the youth’s name
  • A book, small comfort item or sleep aids only when permitted

Usually leave at home

Do not pack these unless the event list asks for them

  • Phones, tablets, smart watches and other electronics.
  • Food, snacks or drinks other than a labelled water bottle.
  • Plates, cutlery or specialty equipment not on the event list.
  • Anything valuable or difficult for the youth to manage.

Before leaving home

Final checks

  • Confirm arrival and pickup times in ScoutsTracker.
  • Complete any required registration, payment or forms.
  • Review the forecast and adjust clothing and sleeping gear.
  • Label equipment and leave unnecessary valuables at home.
  • Ask the section Scouters if anything in the event instructions is unclear.
